Stagira Athos

Stageira is the birthplace of Aristotle and the entrance to the Municipality of Stageira-Akanthos.

It is built at the beginning of Stratonikos mountain at an altitude of about 500m.

At the entrance of the village, visitors can see the park, in which the Statue of Aristotle stands proudly surrounded by monuments such as towers, public baths and the tower of Madem Agaa, from the Iron Age. Sidirokafia was the administrative center of the region and had its own mint.

Below the village, we see the central church dedicated to the "Birthday of the Virgin". It is of great historical importance and was built in 1814 with the help of Hilantari Monastery on Mount Athos. Athos. The small church dedicated to "Panagia Spilotissa", built on a rock, is also very interesting.

In this area, the celebration of the big village takes place on September 8. Guests can walk on the green path with panoramic views. There are about 500 inhabitants living in the village today.

The beautiful and historic village of Stageira is located above the main road Thessaloniki-Ouranoupolis, about 8 km from the sea.
